Our History
In 1985, after learning and appreciating the craft of woodworking in industrial arts classes offered in my high school. I was offered an opportunity to become a woodworking apprentice under the strict guidance of old world German craftsmen.
I learned my craft from the ground up. I also learned and appreciated that these men came from a strong heritage and it showed in the pride that they displayed in their work.
I learned that for woodworking to withstand 100 years or more of continuous use, it was crucial that the proper joinery and methods of assembling be established, which would provide the strength to endure.
I learned the importance of wood selection; matching color and grain, to have the wood make the statement and to show that thought and care was the purpose of each project.
I learned that an heirloom could be constructed, but that the wood finishing process will make or break the whole project.
As I continued to work perfecting my skills for the next 10 years; I discovered an opportunity which allowed me to open my own business and put into action all the skills I had honed.
In 1995, Top Shelf Cabinetry, Inc. a Chicago based architectural woodworking company was founded.
For the past 10 years, I have been building a successful business. Much of my work can be seen on the near north side and north shore suburbs of Chicago, as well on the barrier island of Vero Beach, FL.
